Painting has been under observation by Museum curatorial staff. There are concerns over the stability of the painting.

Museum curatorial staff determines that the painting is in fragile condition and needs immediate attention
May 22, 2003
Museum staff delivers painting to the Upper Midwest Conservation Association in Minneapolis Minnesota
July 11, 2003
Senior Paintings Conservator, David Marquis, completes detailed condition report and treatment proposal
July 29, 2003
South Dakota Art Museum authorizes treatment.
August-December 2003
David Marquis begins the careful treatment of the painting, keeping Museum staff informed as to its progress and any concerns.
January 2004
David Marquis shares with the Museum staff his thoughts as to the type of strainer needed to provide support for the painting. In addition, he expresses concern over the original frame authenticity and structural integrity.
March 2004
Museum staff decides that for the protection of the painting and for aesthetic reasons, the frame would be replaced.
May 20, 2004
Museum staff travels to Minneapolis to meet with Certified Professional Framer from Master Framer Incorporated, Sue Davis to look at moulding samples. A moulding is selected that is more typical of frames from 1928; typical of what was used by the artist and one that will work well with the painting
October 7, 2004
Museum staff travel to Minneapolis to meet with David Marquis about the progress of the restoration and to discuss decisions regarding the inpainting of localized cracks.
November 2004
David Marquis and Joan Gorman, Paintings Conservators adhere the painting to the new fiberglass strainer and place the painting in its new frame. Final touches to the painting are made.
January 2005
Painting is scheduled to be transported from Minneapolis to Brookings by a fine arts handler.
February 2005
The painting is scheduled to be unveiled at a public reception on February 25, 2005 with guest lecture by David Marquis.
