Lynn Verschoor, Director

Lynn studied at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts and teaching from South Dakota State University in 1979. She received her Master of Science degree in information media and instructional design from St. Cloud State University at St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1985.

Lynn is a working artist whose art was shown in the 1998 exhibition, "Text and Texture," at the Broome Street Gallery in New York City. During her more than twenty years as an exhibiting artist, Lynn’s work has been included in exhibitions nationwide from Tennessee to California. Her background as artist, educator, gallery director, and exhibition curator provides a strong basis for museum leadership.

John Rychtarik, Curator of Exhibits

John is a South Dakota native who grew up in the Pierre area and now lives in Brookings. He has worked at the Siouxland Heritage Museums in various positions since 1983 including Curator of Exhibits, Curator of Collections, and Assistant Director. At the Robinson State Museum in Pierre, he held the position of Exhibits Curator. John has also worked as an art instructor at the Flandreau Indian School and at Mobridge Public Schools.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in art education with a minor in history from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1969. He has since continued his education with coursework and workshops in art, anthropology, and museum studies.

Lisa Scholten, Curator of Collections

Lisa is originally from Lyndhurst, Ohio, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, and a Master of Science degree from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She has done additional coursework pursuant to a doctorate degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Lisa has experience as an educator, a researcher, and as a museum curator. She was an Assistant Professor in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at South Dakota State University for seven years. She has been with the South Dakota Art Museum as a consultant, Marghab Linen Curator, and since 1999, as Curator of Collections.

Pam Adler, Museum Store Manager/Program Assistant

Pam is a South Dakota native who grew up in the Brookings area. She began managing the Museum Store in July 2004. She had spent 19 years working in retail operations, specifically in store design and development with Coast to Coast Hardware and True Value Hardware.

Dianne Hawks, Marketing Specialist

Dianne joined the South Dakota Art Museum staff in January, 2008.  She studied business administration and marketing in Sioux Falls before moving to the Brookings area.  During her career, she's been employed at SDSU, Brookings Public Schools, SCSA Diagnostics and Century 21 Gustafson, Krogman & Associates Real Estate before coming to the SDAM.  She loves being at the South Dakota Art Museum and promoting such a great asset to the State of South Dakota.  Dianne and her husband DeWayne live in Aurora.

Student Staff

Megan

 
Megan is from Mountain Lake, Minnesota and is a Senior at South Dakota State University. She is currently studying Apparel Merchandising and Marketing. Some of Megan's hobbies include shopping, reading, exercising, and hanging out with friends and family. What Megan likes most about working at the Art Museum is being able to work on the website and seeing all of the new and different exhibits.
 

 

Brianna

Brianna is from Moorhead, Minnesota and is a Junior at South Dakota State University. She is currently studying Wildlife Biology and Spanish. Scrapbooking, reading, sports, lakes, being outside, and catching up with friends are some of her hobbies. What Brianna like most about working at the museum is learning something new everyday and knowing she is helping in some way.

 

Casey

Casey is from Atkinson, Nebraska. He is a Junior studying History at South Dakota State University. Reading, movies, and building airplanes are some of his hobbies. Casey likes to meet and talk to all of the staff at the museum.

 

Amanda

 
Amanda is from Flandreau, South Dakota. She is a Senior at South Dakota State University and is majoring in Pharmacy. Some of Amanda's hobbies include traveling, reading, hanging out with friends and family and watching movies. Working with the staff, seeing exhibits and working in the gift shop are what Amanda likes best about working at the museum.


Courtney

Courtney is from Murdock, Minnesota. She is a Junior studying Mathematics and Business at South Dakota State University. Playing piano, reading, painting, fishing, hunting and playing softball are some of her hobbies. What Courtney likes about working at the museum is not doing the same task everyday.
 

Liz

Liz is a junior at South Dakota State University studying Art Education and Women's Studies. She enjoys reading, traveling, activism, and baking. What she likes most about the Art Museum is being able to see the new art before other people! Liz's dad is in the Air Force so she spent ten years overseas - six years in Germany and four years in Japan.

 

 


Megan

Megan is from Flandreau, South Dakota.  She is a Senior studying English Education and Women Studies at South Dakota State University.  Reading, being with friends and family, good food, and laughing are her interests.  Megan likes going to work not knowing what to expect.
 

 
 

Justine

Justine is from Tyler, Minnesota.  She is a Junior studying Nursing and Health Science at South Dakota State University.  Camping, bonfires, baking, going to the lake, and being with family and friends are her interests.  Justine likes doing something different everyday here at the Art Museum.
