Lynn Verschoor, Director
Lynn studied at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree
in fine arts and teaching from South Dakota State University in
1979. She received her Master of Science degree in information
media and instructional design from St. Cloud State University
at St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1985.
Lynn is a working artist whose art was shown in the 1998
exhibition, "Text and Texture," at the Broome Street Gallery in
New York City. During her more than twenty years as an
exhibiting artist, Lynn’s work has been included in exhibitions
nationwide from Tennessee to California. Her background as
artist, educator, gallery director, and exhibition curator
provides a strong basis for museum leadership.

John Rychtarik, Curator of Exhibits
John is a South Dakota native who grew up in the Pierre area and
now lives in Brookings. He has worked at the Siouxland Heritage
Museums in various positions since 1983 including Curator of
Exhibits, Curator of Collections, and Assistant Director. At the
Robinson State Museum in Pierre, he held the position of
Exhibits Curator. John has also worked as an art instructor at
the Flandreau Indian School and at Mobridge Public Schools.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in art
education with a minor in history from Northern State University
in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1969. He has since continued his
education with coursework and workshops in art, anthropology,
and museum studies.

Lisa
Scholten, Curator of Collections
Lisa is originally from Lyndhurst, Ohio, and holds a Bachelor of
Science degree from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, and a
Master of Science degree from Ohio State University in Columbus,
Ohio. She has done additional coursework pursuant to a doctorate
degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in
Blacksburg, Virginia.
Lisa has experience as an educator, a researcher, and as a
museum curator. She was an Assistant Professor in the College of
Family and Consumer Sciences at South Dakota State University
for seven years. She has been with the South Dakota Art Museum
as a consultant, Marghab Linen Curator, and since 1999, as
Curator of Collections.

Pam
Adler, Museum Store Manager/Program Assistant
Pam is a South Dakota native
who grew up in the Brookings area. She began managing the Museum
Store in July 2004. She had spent 19 years working in retail
operations, specifically in store design and development with
Coast to Coast Hardware and True Value Hardware.

Dianne
Hawks, Marketing Specialist
Dianne studied at the Nettleton Commerical College in
Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She moved to Brookings in the 1970's
and worked on campus at SDSU for 14 years in various
departments. She later worked at Hillcrest Elementary as a
school secretary for 14 years. Dianne is now back on campus
working at the South Dakota Art Museum. She loves learning the
new challenge of working at the art museum.

Abbe
Guest is from Chamberlain, South Dakota and is majoring in
history with a specialization in teacher education at SDSU. She has
been with the Museum since August 2006 and loves that she gets to
work with art, one of her favorite things. Abbe spends her spare
time reading, boating, traveling, watching movies and hanging out
with her friends.

Riley
Aadland is a pre-pharmacy major originally from Veblen, South
Dakota. He began working at the museum this fall and what he loves
most about it is how laid back it is. When Riley’s not at work, he
enjoys playing sports, watching sports, eating, and napping. After
graduation, he plans to become a pharmacist at a retail pharmacy.

Heath
Alsgaard is a history and Spanish major from Sioux Falls, South
Dakota. He started working at the museum in September and what he
enjoys most is helping to put up the new exhibits in the galleries.
Some of his hobbies include writing, drawing, playing video games,
listening to music, and studying languages.

Darci
Nelson is currently studying sociology and is originally from
Flandreau, South Dakota. She began working at the museum in
September. Her favorite thing about working at the museum is the
people. Some of her hobbies include reading, writing, and watching
movies.

Destinee Ridge is originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and
is currently studying biology here at SDSU. Some of her hobbies
include hanging out with friends, volunteering, and just having a
good time. She began working at the museum this fall and her
favorite thing about working here is how everyday is different.
Everyday is something new because there are no two days alike. After
graduation, Destinee plans on working in either a hospital or a zoo.

Ryan
Schlieman is
from Madison, Minnesota and is studying History and Teacher
Education here at SDSU. He started working at them museum in
September of 2005. The best part of working at the museum is that
there is never a dull moment and the people are fun. Some of Ryan's
hobbies include playing baseball, softball, and watching racing.
Moving to Sioux Falls for firefighting or teaching high school are
Ryan's plans after graduating.

Megan
Krahn is from
Mountain Lake, Minnesota and is studying in Apparel Merchandising
and Spanish. She began working at the museum in September of 2007.
Megan's hobbies include running, watching movies, reading, and
hanging out with friends. Her favorite part about working at the
museum is putting up new exhibits and working on the website. She
also loves everyone she works with. Megan plans to have a career in
fashion when she graduates from SDSU.

Anthony Wiarda is
attending SDSU for Construction Management. He is orginally from
Dell Rapids. Anthony started working at the museum in February of
2008 and loves the people and the carefree lifestyle of always
having something to do that is not tedious. Some of Anthony's
hobbies include taking long walks on the beach, building things, traveling,
going to concerts, hanging out with friends, working, biking, and
sitting at the reception desk. After graduating, Anthony plans on
using his degree to the fullest extent and possibly more because he
can go anywhere from here.

Kayla
Blindert started working at the art museum in February of 2008.
Her favorite part about working at the museum is enjoying everyone
she works with and being able to do something different everyday.
Some of Kayla's hobbies include running, photography, music, dance,
yoga, skiing, art, and having really good conversations. Kayla is
from Salem, South Dakota and is attending SDSU to study Global
Studies and Spanish. Her plans after graduating are the hopes to
join the Peace Corps right away and after that she does not know but
she is open to almost anything.
