** Due to upcoming HVAC construction,
the Museum will close certain galleries from April through October, 2010.
Please be patient as we strive to be good stewards of the collections, and
ensure a comfortable viewing environment for our friends and visitors.
We observe South Dakota State holidays including New Years Day, Martin
Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor
Day, Native American Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day; please call ahead for more information.
Parking
Parking is available in designated areas in front of the Museum on Medary
Ave (facing north only), in the Visitor Parking section of the lot
immediately west of the SDAM and University Police Dept Building, on Harvey Dunn
St and on 9th St.
Admission:
Admission is free to the Museum. There is a charge for some programs,
such as concerts, films, classes, performances, etc. For more information
call the Museum at 605-688-5423.
Accessibility:
- South Dakota Art Museum, is accessible to all visitors, and arrangements
can be made for guided tours for visitors with disabilities.
- Accessible parking spaces are available in two locations, one of
which is located just north of the main entrance to the museum.
- There is a wheelchair ramp to the main entrance.
- Wide doorways and floor ramps increase accessibility for persons
with wheelchairs.
- Wheelchairs are available for visitors upon request.
- An elevator is able to take visitors to all levels of the museum.
- Public Restrooms include accessible facilities.
Group Visits
Guided tours for groups are offered Monday–Friday from 10 a.m. to
3 p.m. with a reservation. Special arrangements can be made to
accommodate off hours. Reservations for groups of 10 or more and
accommodations for students with special needs are available and must be

Museum Store
The Museum Store at the South Dakota Art Museum represents scores
of local and regional artists. A wide variety of unique pieces are
available for sale. From handmade jewelry to colorful ceramic pottery and innovative basketry, the objects are original works of art of outstanding quality. The store also features books on Native American art and South Dakota history and culture. The SDAM Store is located in the museum lobby and is open during regular museum hours.
Photography/Sketching Policies
Flash photography is not permitted in the Museum. No
photography is allowed in special exhibitions. For permission to
sketch, please ask a staff member.
Coat-Check Area
Located at the (east) entrance to the Museum. All packages, umbrellas
and knapsacks must be checked before entering the galleries.
Directions
From the North:
Take South Dakota I-29 South. Follow south. Merge onto the Exit 133 ramp and follow the exit ramp to US 14 Bypass. Turn right off ramp. Follow this road until the US 14 Bypass and Medary
Ave intersection (first light). Turn left onto Medary Ave. The South Dakota Art Museum will be on the left hand side of the street on the corner of Medary
Ave at Harvey Dunn St.
From the South:
Take South Dakota I-29 North. Follow
North. Merge onto the Exit 132 ramp, labeled BROOKINGS / HURON, and follow
the exit ramp to US 14 (6th St). Turn left onto US 14. Follow this
road until the US 14 and Medary Ave intersection. Turn right onto Medary Ave. The South Dakota Art Museum will be on the right hand
side of the street on Medary Ave at Harvey Dunn St.
From the East:
Take US 14 West into South Dakota. Follow US 14 West into Brookings.
Continue until you reach US 14 (6th St) and Medary Ave intersection. Turn right onto Medary Ave.
The South Dakota Art Museum will be on the right hand side of the street
on Medary Ave at Harvey Dunn St.
From the West:
Take US 14 East. Follow US 14 (6th
St) into Brookings. Continue until you reach the US 14 and Medary Ave intersection. Turn left onto Medary Ave. The South Dakota Art
Museum will be on the right hand side of the road on Medary Ave at
Harvey Dunn St.
